Architecture Overview

The Artesia DAM product provides a robust enterprise architecture as the foundation for its digital media management platform. Just as digital assets are used in many different workflows and flow through different departments, a Digital Asset Management system should also be able to integrate with many different types of systems across an enterprise.

Web Services

Artesia DAM Web Services are based on open standards and are fully secure and interoperable with application platforms, whether .Net, JEE or others. These services allow customers to extend and automate the flow of media between systems like Web Content Management, ERP, CRM or other B2B applications.

Java Enterprise Business Services

The Artesia system is built from the ground up as a JEE services-enabled application, which supports customers own internal service-oriented enterprises. All of business services are designed to be efficient in handling large volumes of media, metadata and users. The business services are the foundation of the Digital Asset Management application. Business services also allow integration with other enterprise applications to incorporate information from these systems as part of the metadata for digital assets. This is an important aspect of enabling users to search and locate assets while ensuring that access and security are enforced. Examples of these systems include Product Information systems, Title databases, and Material Master databases.

Content processing services

As media usage increases, the need to automate media tasks is also increasing. Artesia DAM supports very broad integration of content processing technologies, from video and audio transcoding, to image transformation and digital watermarking, to PDF assembly and automated packaging. The Digital Asset Management architecture allows customers to configure and customize this automation to fit their workflows with as little manual intervention as possible.

Database

Metadata are an integral part of Digital Asset Management, and without metadata, a valuable asset can become essentially worthless. These data must be protected in a robust database, providing for robust backup and replication options along with advanced query and tuning capabilities to ensure high performance. Artesia DAM supports both the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and Oracle 10g databases. Customers are able to take advantage of the advanced scaling and database clustering features of both of these databases technologies.

Content repositories and Artesia's Content Manager Framework

Despite even the most modern compression technologies, digital media files are generally the largest of all types of content, which means a lot of storage is required for Digital Asset Management. However, not all storage media is alike, and not all digital assets require the same storage media. Artesia DAM has a Content Manager Framework, allowing simultaneous configuration with many different types of storage technologies. Customers are able to match their storage investments to their needs for retrieval performance and reliability.
